NWC fresh produce exports have increased steadily over the past 22 years. Major drops in export volumes is generally associated with the occurrence of natural disasters such as droughts, tropical cyclones and flooding. Papaya and eggplant remain the leading commodities for Nature’s Way with the contribution from breadfruit and mango remaining low in terms of overall volumes.

2017 showed a recovery from the devastation of TC Winston and the floods in 2016. The throughput showed an increase in the volumes of produce being exported, but did not meet the expectations of the industry.

2017 was also a good year for the exports of breadfruit, where 1329 kgs of breadfruit was exported to NZ. This is expected to continue in 2018 and breadfruit exports is expected to reach its normal export volumes.
